As a child, I (1965) would play with caleidoscope for hours, transfixed by the always changing glass like forms. That child-like wonder is my motivation to make my glass sculptures, in order to instill that same wonder in the viewer. Not interested in repeating the same things over and over again, I like to work outside of the box; pushing to enlarge the box. My inspiration is an idea to make three-dimensional glass sculptures using glass fusing as a technique. This resulted first in the development of Stacks, where stacks of glass are fused together. This original technique has since been adopted by many other glass fusers. Wishing to further develop these objects into three dimensions, I took a three-week masterclass in Bavaria (Germany) in 2018. Teacher Matthew Szösz and teacher assistent Anna Mlasowsky, both renowned glass artists, taught me the techniques for inflating and hand folding glass objects. I combine these techniques with my own style to make powerful, yet elegant sculptures.
