Interpreting Mondrian's Composition in Red, Blue, Yellow I My fascination by Piet Modrian's, Composition in Red Blue & Yellow, inspired this stool/sculpture/assemblage. I found a book, Darkest Hours by Jay Robert Nash, which listed statistics and stories about natural disasters through out the world. One story was about the 1902 Pelee volcanic eruption which killed everyone in the town of St. Pierre except for one survivor who was a prisoner inside a jail. Raoul Sarteret, a murderer, blinded by the heat of the lava was later pardoned and became a missionary. Fascinated by the story, I photocopied page 435 and collaged it onto a pizza box that was sitting on top of my vintage stool I'd just purchased from a swap-meet. I painted the Mondrian image, glued and nailed the box onto the stool. I faux finished it to give it an aged patina. Still obsessed with Mondrian's Composition in Red Blue & Yellow, I later applied that same image and page 435 to various objects. In a perfect world, this stool/sculpture/assemblage would be displayed on a white pedestal. This is NOT functional art or furniture.

I live in Santa Monica, California. Presently I am working on a body of work I call, Miniature Events. The Miniature Events are small scale dioramas of various themes. My line drawings are done while I'm researching and I may take several years to complete one image, or make several in a same week. My process varies. .
