About the Artist

Drager Meurtant

Netherlands

Drager Meurtant (1951) decided to also be an artist (autodidact) in later life. Creations include poems, sculptures-assemblages-collages-paintings-graphics. Assemblages and collages are a central medium: both man-made material as well as that supplied by nature (wood, stone) are used in my artworks, including discarded and found objects, with an eye for surreal meaning. Looking at structures, compositions, during the process of creation, I follow the appearence that gradually surfaces, while not keeping to a simple suit of illusions.
The place of humans in society, in our world, increasingly is examined and translated into art.
Many artists inspire, such as David Smith, Robert Rauschenberg, Louise Bourgeois, Joan Miro, Maria Helena Vieira da Silva.
