Sculpture: Wax, Metal, Engraving on Other.
Part of a recent commission by a museum in the UK. This work is inspired by two Rose Engine engraved pocket watches, which hang side-by-side in the museum, belonging to its founders. Kate researched ‘time’ within the museum and how historic objects maintain their relevance in an ever-changing world. She has made two experimental pieces that stand together, translating the pocket watch dials and the museum’s stopped clocks into geometric patterns cut by hand in wax on her self-built Rose Engine. Cross-purposing old/new techniques, Kate translated these waxes into electroform copper/plated in gold. ‘John & Joséphine’s Timepieces’ uniquely reanimate and record time within the museum; breathing new life into its watches and stopped clocks.
