Carmela Blanco is an Argentine artist born in Buenos Aires, Argentina (1966).
She studied drawing and painting under the tutelage of the famous artist Kazu Takeda, however, her
training was not limited to that: she also worked with the renowned sculptor Ricardo de la Serna,
which led her to discover her true passion for sculpture, with the master Filgueira Otamendi where
she incorporates oil painting and with Poli Costa with whom she investigated abstraction in painting
thus broadening her artistic approach. Together with Poli Costa, from 2006 to 2013 she was part of
the creative collective Grupo Costa-Blanco.
Her works, made with recycled and found materials - such as metal and wood - have a marked
dynamic tension that creates a sense of movement and life in space. Carmela is a multifaceted and
exploratory artist, working in different media and materialities. In 2014 she received a special
mention in the V Salón Homenaje a la Mujer awarded by Argentine Society of Plastic Artists for the
artwork Niños y juegos. During the same year she received another special mention in the 102nd
Argentine National Salon of Visual Arts "Palais de Glace" with the artwork Acordes. In 2023, he was
finalist in the sculpture category of the Mediterranean Art Prize, Potenza, Italy and special mention
in XXI Tarbut Salon with Transparencia otoñal II.
