ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Laplace’s Demon explores the conflicting propositions of determinism, randomness, and divine intervention. The personified “demon” of my work is an athlete of knowledge reaching out in an acrobatic move for the roulette wheel, a symbol of chance. The roulette wheel is placed in a temporal sequence of matter, arising from the Vacuum.1 At a closer look, the demon seems to bear some of the attributes of the universe in which it wants to intervene, leaving us with the question of whether free will is possible in a causal world.
