Imagine this started with a ball of stoneware clay. After a meticulous hand-building process, coating with a super-fine layer of clay, buffing, two firing processes, cleaning, and waxing, this is the result. It's still magical to me when I see the end result. This one-of-a-kind stoneware lidded box would be a great place to store small keepsakes or jewelry. It measures 5" x 3.75" x 3.25". The surface is smooth with a wax finish and felt bumpers on the bottom of the piece. The interesting patterning is the result of smoke that is part of a special firing process I use that always provides the unexpected.

I knew at a early age that art was really at my core. It came out in drawing mostly, but as a shy kid, the attention I got from it when I received feedback was what fed me and gave me that much needed confidence that I lacked. I struggled with career decisions when I got to that age where we are all expected to decide and I took countless aptitude tests to figure it out. The results were always the same....do something creative. I went on to get a degree in fine art, but was still hesitant to commit to it as a career choice where I could truly be expressive. For a brief time I did clay work part time and found it inspiring but other things took over and I put it away. My other work experience has included years in woodworking, graphic design, and photography. Living in the beautiful mountains of western North Carolina offers endless inspiration to fuel my passions in both clay and photography.
