Light into the Night Sculpture

The work, of 2016, made of rootwood and plexiglass, is part of my research to which belong several works of the period and that investigate the representation of the self, here the place of our intimate manifestations. The oneself represented therefore and anyway through sculpture. I wish now consciously give back to sculpture that identity role of human sensations that today more than before represent the challenges for each of us. It is clear that all my research wants to be a writing in fragments, without pretensions of globality, a postmodern deconstruction: fragments of one's time that survive everyday life. I don't want to create a unified vision, rather to create a solid, rarefied poem together, subtle, a polyemic narrative in which identity coexist. The work presents itself as a synthesis of dwelling composed of several elements. A plexiglass fragment inserted into an architectural element. The mixture between these is the center, the point where the latent energy manifests itself and is released. Between one element is born and the form dies, as if it were an elusive thought made solid. The form, which recalls an architecture is inhabited and is the place of our energy. The place from where our energy is born, springs and is perceived outside. Inside our energy, our light, trembles to get out. It is what we sometimes allow others to glimpse, the intimate part of us. What you see, the shape that comes out of the plexiglass is made of air, we are made of nothing. My desire is to represent, digging the matter of the plexiglass, the void in which matter is inlaid... impervious air that acquires a formal and conceptual weight that manifests itself in the expressive force of the form. Though plexiglas she inserts in her work a new glare of reality, a breath of lightness that shows presence as well as absence. Her works seems to come out of the blue, out of existence, out of those simple question that have still no adequate answers. Inner sculptures, meta-sculptures that are almost only visible underneath a microscope lens, lonely liberation of matter with no horizon, no big story to tell, they multiply and prosper in everybody’s existential loneliness. “Here there are our temporary existences, our microscopic problems, made just big enough to be visible, becoming almost obvious….Microscopic loneliness that swear for free identity. “ Antonella Gerbi Born in 1976, she graduates in Graphic Design in 1995 and attends sculpture classes in Pietrasanta (LU) held by the Master Cesare Riva. In 1999 she graduates in Conservation and Restoration in Venice where she opens a sculpture studio together with the Master Renato Mari. In 2007 she graduates in Sculpture at Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera in Milan and in 2008 she attains a master degree in Visual Arts and teaching. In 2009 she undergoes a training journey on international sculpture through America and New Zealand. Her artistic research develops around the concept of impermanence that surrounds us, investigated through observation of everyday things and their evolution, growth and passing. Since 1997, when she won the Viviani award for Sculpture in Nova Milanese, she has strictly committed herself to her artistic career by promoting her works and taking part in numerous exhibitions, symposia and events in Italy and abroad.
