About The Artwork
This work is from my 'MAD ABOUT MANGOES' series where each piece is a unique abstract 'mango painting', to be viewed from multiple sides when hung from the top. I see the mango as a fruit that brings a lot of joy and happiness to everyone in the Indian subcontinent. It is a tender, seasonal fruit that is ironically ripened in the sweltering heat of the plains.

What interests me most in the creation of an abstract work is how form emerges with the play of colour and texture. How stories begin to paint themselves through a process that is as much a mystery to the artist as it is to the viewer. I very rarely use the brush, and often depend on the use of sponges, wires, dies and other impression-making objects. To me this lends an organic feel to the work, making it all the more ‘telling’ of its origin, intent and scope.
