Sculpture, Bronze on Bronze
Size: 17 W x 19 H x 11 D in
Ships in a Crate
This original sculpture was started in Los Angeles, CA and was finished in southern Michigan. It was inspired by the person behind the facade that we all love and know so well. As a film maker, freelance artist and art teacher, I am very motivated to look deeper into all subjects, and did so with Norma Jean here. Portraying her realistically in bronze was important to me to show the power that her image has had in our society and in the entertainment industry, but keeping her with a more solemn look was not only to be a bit sultry, but to show the woman behind the image. As another woman who has also been working in the film industry, albeit, behind the scenes, Marilyn and her life for me represent a beautiful and tragic story that reminds us all how short life is, yet how much impact we can have. It is also a reminder to remain true to oneself, and to be careful who and what we surround ourselves with. As powerful as her image remains, to me, she was just a real girl, who got lost in a tumultuous world. We can all choose to see her how we wish, with different facets of her life being important to us. So this was my tribute to her life, and her story, and one I will never truly know. The mystery continues. But the memory remains. I hope that the painstaking hours that went into her creation can bring joy and thought into someones life. This is the one and only bronze casting of this sculpture. The mold has been broken. She is truly one of a kind. She is able to stand on a table or pedestal and could easily have a base put on made of any material of the owners choice. I hope to be able to continue to spread the love through her. She is personally my most beloved piece to date.
