Artist Statement          Born in Kingston, Jamaica, Lee-Ann Haslam lives and works between Japan and Jamaica. She studied art at The University of ITSON, Sonora, Mexico; Fordham, NY and Tokyo University of the Arts, Japan. She completed her Masters program with honors in Creative Glass at the Tokyo University of the Arts as a national Monbukagakusho scholar. Her works are rooted in glass, transcending various media with the themes of human perspective, light, colour, nature and emotions. She believes art is never stagnant but always finding new forms of expression for connection. For that reason she shows great respect for the dichotomy of glass in her work and states, "glass is both strong and fragile, rewarding and challenging. Anything you do to an area of surface affects the whole and there is much depth in that." Haslam’s works have been exhibited worldwide including Jamaica, Mexico, America and Tokyo. She has done many commissions while working with glass, for such reputable businesses as Jamaica’s second largest insurance company, Jamaica International Insurance Company (JIIC), The Embassy of Jamaica, Japan, and for notable art enthusiasts and patrons, Pat Ramsey, the former Director of the Centre for the Arts UTech and Mutual Life Galleries, the Ambassador of China, Wayne McCook, and H.I.H Princess Hitachi of Japan, to name a few. She has also exhibited with philanthropic organizations such as The United Nations, and elSOUL, Kyushu. She has been featured in International magazines, media and Newspapers such as The Jamaica Observer, Open Road Arts and Travel Magazine, Black Experience Japan, ReggaeSteem, Jamaican Information Center, 50 Voices Japan (TV program), and The  Flotilla  360, a   news, Art  &   Entertainment  Magazine  on  the African  Diaspora   authentic  perspective.
