ABOUT THE ARTWORK
On vacation in Normandy, France, I found this flat stone in the water just off the shore-line of Omaha Beach. Somehow - maybe due to the horrific battle ever fought there, in contrast to the peacefull ambiance it offers nowadays -it occured to me that to sculpt this stone and throw it back into the sea would be a kind of symbolic gesture to the past as well as to the future. The vacation was too short to finish it properly, so I ended up sculpting the definite version in my studio in the Netherlands.
