This pair of abstract forms are carved from a single piece of marble that I bought from the Seravezza, Italy studio where I rented space for work in Sept. and Oct, 2018. The stone was an off-cut from another creation, and I was inspired by the sweeping, compound curve left by a wire saw.

This curved surface became the faces of these two abstracts that resemble leaves. I’ve carved the tops to be very thin to exploit the stone’s translucency. This particular variety of white marble from the Carrara area has a slight blue hue to it. The Altissimo quarries were discovered and developed by Michelangelo 500 years ago and are up the valley east of Seravezza.

The title translates to “My Dear Child”.

ABOUT THE ARTWORK
