As symbols of innocence and vulnerability, dogs are used as tools onto which identity is projected, while also serving their function as living trophies that signify status and wealth. With these stone works, I am exploring millennia of auto-celebration (especially throughout art history), the toxic mindset behind breeding, and the need for domination and control that is so prevalent in white culture.

Caroline Jacobson grapples with the violence exerted by 24/7 media culture on the individual psyche. She explores human-dog hybrids as avatars uniquely suited to our ever-fracturing reality. Bred and molded for permanent innocence and dependency, dog’s function both as extensions of their owners’ identities and as trophies used to signify status and wealth. As the mandates of capitalism continue to reshape human behavior, we inevitably begin to grow more like our fetish objects: caught in endless cycles of projection and codependency, never seen as ends in ourselves.
