About The Artwork

I started working on this vase almost 2 years ago. It seems to be another life, as there were so many changes in my life... sometimes, we have a clear vision of how things should turn out. Sometimes, they go as planned, sometimes not. Sometimes, we just let them happen without overthinking and go back to them whenever we are ready to do so... And so, I started working on some short collection of moon jars, as a simple exercise about 2 years ago. Any of them has ever turned out even close to perfection, but it was not my goal. I wanted each piece to be a memory and reflection of the moment, emotions, and feelings. This single piece was made of white stoneware on pottery wheel, fired up to 1260·C and then pitfired. It has turned out completely crazy, fascinating, and beautiful. You never get bored of looking at it, as it has so many details, patterns and colours. It's happy, joyful, bright on the one side, and dark, pensive on the other. It transports a huge amount of memories and stories and will always remind me that not only the goal is important, but also the way we get there.

Ceramics is an ancient craft that is being so widely rediscovered now and for me, finding a connection between ancestral techniques, contemporary design and simplicity is an amazing way of expressing myself. I was trained as an architect and started doing ceramics as a hobby at first. Finally, I quit my profession and decided to become a full-time ceramicist. My everyday work is mostly concentrated on utilitarian pieces, such as tableware and functional wares made on pottery wheel, forms are always simple and minimalistic, but I am very focused on every detail following my architect's rule of "less is more". I have made a couple of sculptural artistic projects, collaborations and residencies. My inspiration often comes from simple observation of current circumstances and I am very interested in working on site specific projects and I am fascinated by primitive and alternative firings.
