Inspired by the Omphalos, or navel of the world, I created this sculpture in resin and fiberglass. Interwoven bodies orbit around its center. Wherever the Omphalos is placed, that place will become the center of the world. It will be the cosmic center where communication is established between the w...

Alfonso Ortiz Remacha, a Spanish sculptor, is the author of a highly personal body of work notable for its figurative, expressionist aesthetic and rich conceptual. Materials such as stone, wood, resin, and steel shape a sculpture containing profound dialogues between the past and the present, the mythological and the cosmic, and spirituality and the universal. Born in Zaragoza, a city in northeastern Spain, he began delving into the world of art at a very early age. His lineage is inscribed in his family memory: his mother, Cristina Remacha, was a painter, and his grandfather, Pablo Remacha, was a forging sculptor, these constitute the foundations of a sensibility inherited and cultivated since childhood. But far from being anchored, the artist transcends his legacy to create his own work, a sculpture with figurative roots and an expressionist soul that seeks to invoke the interpellation of the viewer. In these times in which we live, between speed and the ephemeral, Ortiz Remacha vindicates the permanence of reflective thought, of the connection between human beings and the mysterious; it is no coincidence: his training at the Zaragoza School of Arts and Crafts with professors such as the Albareda brothers, Martínez Lafuente, Cano, and Pascual Blanco have been key to his artistic development, which, along with his studies in Hispanic Philology at the University of Zaragoza, broadened his thinking. This immersion in the underground rivers that connect literary currents led him to discover authors and languages that shaped his inspiration. He has an intense artistic career; his work has been featured in numerous exhibitions, awarded and recognized, and is part of prominent private collections in both Spain and America. At the same time, Ortiz Remacha has cultivated a professional career in the fields of graphic design and marketing, disciplines in which he also excels. In 1993, he received a scholarship from the Department of Industry, Trade, and Tourism of the Government of Aragon to specialize in corporate identity and packaging, and in 2002 he earned a master's degre in Marketing Management GESCO from ESIC, thus consolidating a multidisciplinary profile that adds depth to his artistic vision. As we have seen, Alfonso Ortiz Remacha is a contemporary creator with a universal vision, a child of all time. His work reflects a primal beauty that connects us with our ancestors and, at the same time, is radically contemporary.
