Paddleboarder Sculpture

Paddleboarder was inspired by numerous trips to my local beaches in Perth Western Australia. I am fascinated by the movements of the wetsuit clad figures moving through the water in search of the rush of a wave however fleeting. I made some cutouts with a client who has Downs and his turned out well so I was inspired to do my own versions. I hope viewers will get a sense of nostalgia for their own childhood craft work. I hope they might be reminded of the beach and their own Summer adventures! I chose this technique and method because it is familiar and an extension of methods I was persuing previously so there is a level of understanding and desire to get better at using those techniques. The style is replicated from quick sketches made on location at the beach transferred onto larger scale panels in the studio. I was interested to try and recreate the feeling of action in these bigger pieces.
