David Stevens Description of my work as an artist. After graduating from The University of Michigan I moved to Los Angeles where I began working with stained glass making windows and Tiffany lampshades. After moving to Easton in 1980 I continued to do stained glass. I began working in wood also and many of the pieces done at this time were a combination of wood and stained glass. Till the mid 90's I did many wood sculptures both 3 dimensional and standing pieces and more 2 dimensional pieces that are wall hung. For 12 years from 1999 to 2011 I worked in photography. My subjects ranged from working skipjacks and schooners and tallships seen on the Chesapeake Bay to landscapes on the Eastern Shore and other places around the US. Maine, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland were destinations for travel and photography in the early 2000 years. The west from the Southwest to the Canadian Rockies have also been areas that I have loved visiting and photographing. Some foreign travel also provided dramatic subjects- Nepal, India, Scotland and Ireland. In the past year I have returned to wood sculpture because of my love of working with wood and a feeling that it is the area where I have been most creative. I see wood as having so much to offer in terms of varied grains and colors which allow me to create sculptures that reflect the kinds of designs I like while the wood provides such beautiful details.
