Piñathko No. 39 Sculpture

My sculptural work is piñata-based. This piece is from my Painting Piñata series where I layer and blend hand-cut crepe paper to 'paint' on the surface of the painting form. The name Piñathko is a combination of piñata and Mark Rothko’s last name, the artists that this art work is inspired by. Like Rothko, I am layering papers as a painter would blend colors to achieve the colorfields associated with Rothko’s iconic paintings. Although this is a piñata form, it is intended to hang on the wall like a painting would. The material is all paper so best care would be: keeping it out of sunlight, away from moisture and in a temperature controlled environment.
