"REBEL" is an original laser-cut acrylic wall sculpture for modern and contemporary art collectors and enthusiasts. [Be Advised: This design is the true "rebel" of the rotate collection. It chose not to rotate at all. Such a brat.] . ______________________________________________________________...

ALL SCULPTURE SHAPES ROTATE BY HAND Gaya has always been fascinated, curious, and captivated by the magic of movement. This fascination is expressed in her current work which consists of movable wall sculptures and is called "the rotate collection." Founded in her belief that art should be touched, these interplays of geometric shapes and color are designed to be easily rotated by hand. As such, they beckon viewers to express themselves, to participate in the enjoyment and experience of the art. By manipulating the moving parts, they have complete freedom to control all outcomes as they design and create infinite permutations according to their whims. In so doing, the viewer becomes the artist. PROCESS My process is both spontaneous and unconventional and takes anywhere from days to months to complete. To create an initial template, I begin by cutting geometric shapes and forms from heavy cardboard material and then select a small group that I sense belong together. I rely on my intuition to determine the manner in which the geometric shapes and forms will be layered and rotated. I am constantly challenging the complexity and simplicity of design by adjusting and refining each sculpture until I am satisfied that I have achieved perfect harmony of shape, color and symmetry. Utilizing the resultant cardboard template, the final sculpture is then cut from acrylic sheeting and constructed with hardware to facilitate the rotation of the new sculpture. Upon completion, my artistic objective is that each sculpture conveys joy and evokes a sense of playful elegance. It’s that simple. BIO I live and create in New York City. My art has and continues to be inspired by constructivism and the mid-century modern aesthetic.
