This piece was chosen as a winner of the Fine Art Clay Competition from Artrepreneur in 2022. From the competition judge: “An element of rebirth exists in the skeletal quality of these ceramic works as one considers the permanence now established through the firing process. Using nature as a springboard, the work is elevated to reliquary status as an offering of sorts to those who seek refuge in the visual menagerie of these delightful fragments of life. – Herb Weaver The Resilience ceramic plate captures the relentless force of heavy rain as it floods the forest floor, affecting everything in its path. The plate, crafted from black stoneware, features twigs dipped in liquid porcelain, with splashes of blue glaze to evoke the intensity of the downpour. Part of the Life Cycles collection, this series of ceramic plates explores the complex relationship between humans and nature. It tells a story of abundance, destruction, and rebirth, with resilience at its core. The collection includes five hanging plates: Harvest Moon, Waves Crashing, Washout, Resilience, and The Phoenix Factor. Each plate is made from black and white stoneware and incorporates twigs and plants dipped in liquid porcelain. These elements are shaped by hand, preserving the natural essence of the materials.
