About The Artwork

The soul of wine The vine tree accompanied humanity throughout its history, as it is as ancient as the hills. It had a variety of symbolic meanings and embodiments of a relationship of a human being and the world. The vine tree is the first to be planted and grown into a vineyard by Noah after the flood. As it is said in Genesis 6:9-11:32 Isaiah 54:1-55:5 “And Noah the man of the earth became profaned [or merely “began” to work], and he planted a vineyard” (Genesis 9:20). A vine tree in the Jewish mythology is a symbol of Life. For the ancient Greeks, Dionysus is the god of the grape-harvest, winemaking and wine, fertility, ritual madness, religious ecstasy, and theatre. Bacchus, the name adopted by the Romans from Greeks, became the embodiment of the winemaking, the god of ecstasy, the guardian of civilization, the legislature, the peace lover, the farmer and the theater patron. He personalizes the Creative Power. I have been inspired by the diversity of those dynamic, ever-changing, playful symbols, tastes, whiffs and nuances of wine. I am deep into its subtle turning from one essence – the juice of the plants – into some other substance, which strikes a chord with the human soul. It is represented by a colossal vitality and the shapes revolving in perpetual spiral as human life itself. On the other hand, the shape of a bottle of wine itself, being transformed through a sequence of long periods of evolution in sculptural forms, encourages an artist to play with this topic, and tempts me to experiment with it. Each sculpture is a transformation of a wine bottle to a one or the other character or object, constructed with the help of natural wood and acquiring some simplified decorative forms via playful set of colours characteristic to wine itself. These are the fragments of mosaic consisting of shards of thoughts, associations or remembrances expressed in or caused by the particular scents or tastes. The series is filled with the mild, playful mood and lively creative relaxation. It reflects upon the soul of the wine which manifests itself just as easy, diverse and varied phenomenon.
