An old disused Drive near the small town of Rosa. The Drive-In was the new America and now it is the old America. In the 1950’s cars had wings but were flightless. They had flair and free spirit. It smacked of optimism and good times and in a way they were. Where offing’s were made in neon and accessed by the car. Now the neon’s of the Drive-In are turned off, left to decay and rust. Iconic manufactories of the dream, such as Lockheed Martin, McDonnell Douglas, Kodak, R.J. Reynolds, American Motors, General Motors, Chrysler, the glamour of drive in cinemas, of highway motels and the innovators of fast food perished in the vicissitudes of popular culture.

New Zealand
My work questions popular and prevailing perceptions, conceptions about our own world view and our own New Zealand story; to look under the rug, to see the shadows, to ingest the popular and unpopular, the familiar and the unfamiliar - to confront the message that we want to just drive by. My work is deeply rooted in Americana - a popular culture wasteland that seeps and leaks its way into New Zealand culture. I extract design elements from the street and put them into the Gallery space, I call this practice, Signtology.
