A CONTRIBUTION TO THE LIVING ENVIRONMENT: Sculpture allows the architect to reconnect with tradition, to conceive of architecture as a whole where the overall design integrates the design of interior and exterior spaces, furniture, and all the details that constitute a living space, extending to the integration of works of art into everyday spaces. This integration facilitates the demystification and popularization of art. While this is certainly known, it is part of my perspective on the architect’s role as a key player in the living environment, a subject that occupies and concerns them on a daily basis. In this context, art is not necessarily a bearer of history or the traceability of events, but contributes to an overarching message within the city and all the living spaces that comprise it. It must help convey a positive dynamic, stimulate the desire and positiv emotions that enable progress and ease tensions. Celebrating joy, beauty, and freedom through art is a public service in that it fosters hope rather than despair. CREATIVE APPROACH: My creative process resembles automatic writing, a materialization of what is invented without our knowledge in the depths of our being. Freed from reason, expressions of the imagination, my creations belong, in their approach, to surrealism, in the truest sense of the term. The sole constraint and starting point of creation is a handmade model that can be compared to the writer’s “blank page,” upon which inspiration, freed from meaning, inscribes unconscious desires in both solid and empty spaces. It is the enchantment of the voids that creates transparencies, brings the material to life, and transforms it to offer silhouettes turned toward the future. INFLUENCES, EXPERIENCE & MEDIUM CHOICE: From architecturework to artwork, a small step taken under the influence of sculptors such as Peter Consagra, Parvine Curie, Philipe Hiquily, and Spanish Basque sculptors like Chillida, Oteiza, and Arregi. All have worked with steel in its various forms throughout their careers. Through these influences and my own experience, this material has become a natural choice for me : A modern material with diverse compositions (raw steel, black steel, Corten steel, stainless steel, etc.), a durable, structurally strong, and recyclable material. TECHNIQUE: The oldest practice is the transformation of metal through “fire” to create a sculpture.
