ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This robot metal art sculpture is a sculpture created with multiple industrial parts by artist Giannis Dendrinos. It reminds of robotic art movement of the 60s. The artist's passion to create industrial steampunk artworks is inspired by sci-fi movies and old futuristic art movements. The robot switches on from the black switch on the left. The center part is a vintage electric switch box of the 60s. Repaired and renovated, it still works and switches on the lamp. It is powered by a red cloth cable. Inside the switch all connections and circuits are following safety regulations. The lamp is included with 3 dimming steps. Each time you switch off and on it dims higher.(with the specific lamp) 1,2m length of the cable. Works in 230V EU power. Bulb and shade is included The indicated size is without the lamp. Made of plumbing pipes and electric parts. The natural environment of African landscape, the primitive way of life and my father’s metal workshop where I used to spend many hours playing are the basic reasons that led me to metal sculpture by using engine’s spare parts. They provide me with shapes and forms which I weld, grind, polish and finally varnish. I feel that I always have something new to discover which lead to new ideas and inventions. Using parts is about constructing, assembling, disassembling. Try the infinite possibilities of combining various objects to form what I have in my mind. These sculptures are a combination of figurative and industrial art. My current themes are mostly humanoid. As am attempt to show the fragile nature of mankind through the birth cycle, the creation process, motherhood, love. On the other side, I experience metal sculpture as a game and revive my need to play by creating vehicles such as motorbikes, cars and trains. The strong needs of an individual to explain his existence, to seek his origins, the power of the mind are themes that fascinate me. A challenge for me would be in creating huge metal sculptures involving movement in order to create kinetic sculptures (kinetic art). I admire kinetic artists such as Jean Tinguely, Alexander Calder and classic sculptors such as Henry Moore, David Smith. My goal through my artwork is to convey the way I experience life and my exploration of art by using an industrial material which is being transformed to an unusual medium in Art.

My name is Giannis I was born in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo in 1978, but I'm Greek. I spent most of my childhood in Kinshasa until I was 12 when I moved to Athens. I studied electrical engineering and later art restoration in Athens, where I currently live and work. I work as a digital marketer with exertiese on SEO & Google Ads. As an artist, I'm a self-taught metal sculptor, and my primary medium is industrial metal scrap parts. My artwork reflects my interest in exploring the relationship between humans and modern industrial society. I find inspiration in human-centered themes, such as motherhood, and the materials I use, which come from contemporary industrial society. Through my art, I examine the contradiction between human nature and the automated society and the challenges that arise as a result. I'm particularly interested in the position of man within this society and the impact it has on the human experience. Since 2000, I've had my workshop in Athens, where I continue to live and work. In addition to my artistic pursuits, I also work as a digital marketer.
