An original painting from the Sculpted Creatures series. Each piece from this collection does not need a frame as the edges are painted all around. Also, the piece benefits with an additional spotlight because that really highlights all the shadows, as can be seen in the first image. The concept behind this series is geared towards the overlap of natural and synthetic patterns. This is all indicated through the artistic process and the use of material. Embodying a very direct indication of the process of life, my paintings show growth, deterioration, and ultimately death through the use of clay. Growth and movement come about from the 3-dimentional forms, giving off the impression that they are alive. The connecting and overlapping patterns create webs that also give off the feeling of multiplying. While deterioration and death are portrayed through the broken pieces and remains that create textured backgrounds. Like wise the use of material is also a parody of my artistic concept of man vs nature. As the plastic (a very man made material) connects each clay figurine (ultimately the most natural material), the technique becomes a reflection of how we attempt to live with nature but regretfully in the process we tend to destroy it or modify it.
