About The Artwork

I like working with the size of a human person. With the Totems I create characters. The utilitarian pieces that are the footprint of ancient civilizations and that are closely linked to the life of women. The superimposition of ceramic pieces that come from the tradition of the potter, for me symbolize the work of women throughout the history of humanity. A work of care and generosity towards her own. Pieces that individually are loaded with meaning, but that together tell stories or generate characters. The work of the Totems for me is like a game. It's like threading necklaces. From pieces made on the lathe, without glazing, I combine them and create vertical forms. The pieces rotate on themselves, allowing the user to create different works. In a way it is a work open to change.

I was born in Barcelona in 1962 and I graduated in Fine Arts in Cuenca's University. I am currently working on the creation of Totems, made up of stacked pieces of stoneware, which come from the field of utilitarian ceramics. I use shapes with expressive deformations, fitting them into columns of variable composition. When I started working in this craft, I realised that everything revolved around the feminine. The earth, the circle and the shapes that emerge from this millenary technique produce utilitarian pieces that are the mark of ancient civilisations, apparently fragile, but which have survived thousands of years underground. The superimposition of ceramic pieces crossed by an iron rod was born as a symbol of women's work, care and generosity towards their loved ones, and at the same time alludes to the feminine role and its historical link with the domestic sphere. Now the work of the Totems has become a game for me, where I thread necklaces on a human scale.
