Inspired by sketches made for my surface pattern designs taken from an anemone shell, the sculpture has both a decorative quality whilst exploring the play of light on form. The shapes are simple, strong and calming. As the viewpoint alters subtle changes of shape, colour and shadow become evident. Made from American Black Walnut with inlay and plinth of White Oak. Oiled with a satin appearance. All packaging is biodegradable.

Born 1965 in London, England. I currently combine my studio practice with teaching art and design on the South Coast of England. My work spans the spheres of design and fine art from surface pattern design through to painting and sculpture. Common elements in all my work are the intuitive and exploratory approach which lead toward abstract outcomes focusing on the formal elements of shape and form in particular. My sculptures bridge the more formal and graphic quality of my pattern work often using the same motifs which emerge again within my painting but in a more expressive manner. I am particularly interested in the history of a paintings surface and the expressive combination of brush mark, line and colour. I am influenced by many artists but in particular Victor Pasmore, Mark Rothko, Rex Ray, Barbara Rae and Lola Donohue.
