Handmade Stoneware Pottery Jug - Snake Oil Bottle - Ceramic Folk Art I love the fact that most Snake Oils sold 100 years ago made miraculous claims but were generally ineffective. The ingredients were almost always secret and unidentified, but the salesman would claim his potion would cure all. These stoneware jugs were all hand built from stoneware clay, then glazed with several types of glazes and underglazes. Handmade snakes with realistic scales twist around the neck. I silk screened my own ceramic decals for the front and back of each piece. As with each of my other projects that include clay and decals, each piece had to be fired 3 times - bisque, glaze, and decal.
