Tayyab Tariq, inspired by Joseph Beuys’ concept of “social sculpture,” expands on the idea to explore the impact of mass media on contemporary society. Beuys introduced “social sculpture” to highlight art’s potential to transform society, encompassing human activities that shape social and environmental structures. Tayyab Tariq’s interpretation evolves this concept, critiquing how mass media creates a persuasive yet false narrative of reality. He uses the metaphor of a chair and its shadow to illustrate how tangible events and issues are often overshadowed by the fabricated narratives presented by media. In modern art, Tayyab’s work emphasizes the significant influence of mass media in shaping public perception and the overlooked effects of real-world phenomena. His social sculpture encourages viewers to recognize and question the discrepancies between mediated images and actual realities.
