About The Artwork

For a long time now I often use old family-photographs as references for my paintings. I then take the depicted persons out of their surroundings and put them in a new context. For this series ("Spuren") I reversed my creative process. I transfer-printed a photography onto a piece of cardboard I normally like to use for paintings. The two people on this picture are my grandmother and an admirer of hers. I cut out part of my grandmother to fold it down. It exposes the comb-structure that keeps the cardboard in shape. This work deals more with the absence of people that were once with us.

I am a self-taught painter. Born 1986 in Solingen, Germany. Recently my main focus lays on how the image of people in portraiture is changing through time and how that reflects on the depicted persons.
