About The Artwork
For a long time now I often use old family-photographs as references for my paintings. I then take the depicted persons out of their surroundings and put them in a new context. For this series ("Spuren") I reversed my creative process. I transfer-printed a photography onto a piece of cardboard I normally like to use for paintings. I removed the teacher in this one and exposed the comb-structure that keeps the cardboard in shape. This work deals equally with the absence of people as with the people present.
