ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Squish came together from materials laying around my studio. The bottom section came from a piece I didn't like. Wire for the middle was a plant-support from a garden store. I pushed a 4" cube of rubber foam through the 1-1/4" open top of the plant-support, thus creating this bizarre shape. Finally, I covered the rubber foam with 4 layers of paper mache and 5 coats of clear gloss acrylic paint. This piece surprised and excited me with the unlikely use of materials. It also opened a new series of strange materials and shapes to paper mache, which I am still exploring. The balance and beauty of the piece is beyond anything I imagined when I started it.
