About The Artwork
This piece was designed to mimic the conventional chess board. The alternating cubes instantly tell its purpose, but the uneven fit maintains a whimsical and handmade quality. The 64 cubes have been left unpolished, keeping the wood grain pattern from the mould they have been cast from. The Resin chess pieces were cast in moulds, and coloured to resemble glass. The similar materials used for the board and pieces compliment each other, fusing the traditional with art nouveau.
