About The Artwork

Work modeled in clay and after a first firing protected by a layer of beeswax, part of a series of works carried out in 2005 and exhibited as Bestiario Lapideo Ardeatino in the garden of the Raccolta Manzù in Ardea, on the occasion of the XIII Settimana della Cultura of 2011. Sources of inspiration have undoubtedly been the ancient magic of the lands of the Agro Pontino and the works of the master Duilio Cambellotti.

Claudio Magnetti is an Italian artist born in Rome in 1942, he graduated in sculpture at the "Accademia di Belle Arti" in Rome, with Prof. Pericle Fazzini. He collaborates with wood sculptor Vincenzo Piovano in his laboratory in Rome. In 1968 he opened a craft and furnishing shop in Rome with his wife Maria Pia Nardini painter and ceramist. He made a copper fountain for lawyer Melacrinis in his Villa di Nicastro (Cosenza). In 1980 he entered as editorial manager at the Tipografia Artistica Editrice di L. Nardini & C. of Rome. In 2001 he returned to dedicating himself to sculpture by attending the I° stage of sculpture technique on marble with manual processing at Arco Arte di Carrara with the sculptor Butros Romhein. In 2002 he was present at the Rome City Council "Studi Aperti" with its publication in the catalog. In August 2002 he attended a stage of Construction of sculptural volumes in clay in Faenza with the sculptor Guido Mariani. In 2003 II° stage of technique of sculpture on marble with machines at Arco Arte di Carrara with sculptor Butros Romhein. In August 2003 he took part in the XII° edition of the " "Pietra lavorata" in the Piazza di Castel San Niccolò (Arezzo). In December 2003 collective exhibition at the "Museo Venanzo Crocetti" in Rome on the theme of the Nativity with publication of his work on the catalog. In 2004 he executed a large travertine sculpture on the square of Capranica Prenestina (Rome) where it is currently visible. In 2005 he participated in the week of AGRIARTE in the Municipality of Cerreto Sannita in the Province of Benevento with a sculpture stand on the main square. Finally, in 2007 he participated in the ATINA ARTE "Premio Internazionale di Scultura VIII Edizione 2007" 3° Prize for the work "La Balia" - an ancient craft and yet very widespread that of the nurse, set in linear forms. He currently lives and works in Ardea. Like Manzù, Magnetti has landed in the peace of Ardeatine power, leaving the clamor of the world behind to create in total freedom and communion with this ancient and magical land, able to speak to anyone who stops to listen, just like Giacomo Manzù did, who he chose Ardea even for extreme rest; as did Dulio Gambellotti further south, in that of Latina, giving life to the watering and the trusty charge of the horses, to the conches with the buffaloes, to the clusters and to the ears of a redeemed Agro Pontino; as did Emilio Greco, stopping at Sabaudia, closed in the deep harem of his sensual women.
