About The Artwork

This sculpture has the Universal declaration of human rights in braille around the base. The stainless steel bars curve around in the Fibonacci sequence. The strands are mirror and brushed polished as a DNA strand increasing in size. The base is oiled and has lights inside to illuminate the braille and on top to light the strands.

Richard Boardman was born in Nottinghamshire and has lived in West Sussex for 28 years. Since leaving school at 17, he has worked in the metal industry for several large fabrication companies. Richard started work as an apprentice and is today a skilled balustrade/fabricator with over 40 years of experience. Over the course of his career, he has been involved in working on many projects and with a variety of renown artists, such as Idris Khan, Thomas Heatherwick and Gerry Judah to name a few. He has also worked on many prestigious projects, such as the Pudding Lane Monument, London Eye, Wembley, Bomber Command, the Ice Angel 50 metre Yacht, Lee Simmons 36 metre whale in Dundee, James Burkes 16 metre blue man at the Amazon HQ in London Through his connection with the artists, he has proved and shown he has an artist flair of his own. His work is both beautiful and mind blowing, as he creates wonderful sculptures from steel. He has had pieces of his work shown at the Hannah Peschar Sculpture Garden and on the Worthing Art Trail. His passion is to create high quality contemporary pieces of artwork and enjoys the ideals of working on projects from start to finish. Art to him is something that speaks to people and provokes opinion. He doesn’t expect everyone to like his work, but those who have seen his work, always express appreciation of the standard and quality of the workmanship. Richard's love is the contrast of all metals and finishes working together, and how nature and light can enhance the effect of them.
