Sculpture: Stone, Wood on Stone, Wood.
Reminiscent of an ancient guardian figure, this piece seems to watch over it's environment while lending it a calm, meditative presence. It is a slice of nature which seamlessly fits into our modern world.
Named after the Japanese tradition of stone appreciation, this small basalt boulder has been dissected and reconfigured to imbue a sensation of growth or expansion, revealing the essence which lies hidden within. I call this process "blooming earth."
Each stone in this series was respectfully selected and sourced from the lush Manoa Valley on Oahu, Hawai'i. It is mounted on a wooden base and is very stable.
