Lawrence J Nowlan, affectionately called "Doobie" by many, was a figurative sculptor who lived and worked in the hills of Vermont and New Hampshire before his untimely death in July of 2013. He spent his childhood in Philadelphia being an avid sports fan and athlete, lover of music and the city's public art. Studying at Philadelphia's Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art and then at the New York Academy of Figurative Sculpture in Tribeca, he honed his skills as an artist and kept true to himself as a hard-working student, passionate sports fan and kind hearted loyal friend to many. His artist-in-residency at Saint Gaudens National Historic Site in New Hampshire cemented his desire to live in a picturesque rural part of the country and have a studio of his own. He moved to Vermont after finishing graduate school. Commissioned for a National Monument while in his residency at Saint Gaudens he was put on the map for figurative sculpture and additional commissions came his way. He worked out of his Windsor, VT studio for close to 20 years and was living the life of his dreams raising his young family and creating beautiful artwork at the time of his death. Larry's sculptures are throughout the United States and in Ireland and his work continues to inspire and teach.
