ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This elegant horse has been created with a 3D pen and black and clear TPU filament. I adore horses and these beautiful animals regularly feature in my work. The artwork looks quite delicate but the filament used is incredibly strong and durable. TPU has many applications, including automotive instrument panels, caster wheels, power tools, sporting goods, medical devices, drive belts and footwear. Drawing with a 3D pen is literally drawing with plastic. The whole piece is very light in weight but substantial enough to hang beautifully from the wooden dowel. These 3D pen drawings look best against a plain, light coloured wall due to their semi transparent nature. Alternatively the dowel (which measures 64cm) could be removed and the drawing professionally framed as a piece of textile art. Keep clean and dust free with an occasional blast with the brush attachment on your vacuum cleaner.

Paula grew up in the beautiful city of York in the United Kingdom and was employed as a textile designer in the early years of her working life. Art has always been a constant and she has explored and experimented with many conventional and unconventional materials. The first sculptures she sold were made out of bread dough which were baked and varnished. These pieces proved so popular that she was able to pursue her dream of being a self employed artist and sold her work successfully through art fairs and markets. Eventually Paula discovered coloured hot melt glue sticks which was an unexplored and really exciting medium to work with. She managed to incorporate wire into the melted glue and was able to form amazing sculptures which were exhibited in many galleries including The Yorkshire Sculpture Park. Further experimentation resulted in the glue guns being used on canvas with the glue replacing acrylic paint which she’d previously used. These sculptural paintings (animal portraits and landscapes) have also enjoyed great success and have been shipped as far and wide as the USA and Australia. One of her beautiful horse paintings was featured on the cover of Equestrian Trade News magazine. More recently Paula has enjoyed working with her latest discovery, the 3D Printer Pen. This ingenious little device allows the artist to draw with melted plastic. Once the filament has cooled, the drawing is a permanent artwork which will hold its shape and can be hung from a dowel or professionally framed. These wall hangings have a lace-like quality and they can be categorized as sculpture and drawing as they are both. For the last four years Paula has lived in Wensleydale and has drawn her art inspiration from the local breath taking countryside and wildlife.
