About The Artwork

Realized or not, aspirations and goals have been the source of the wide spectrum of emotions throughout the ages. Even the so-called royal families were not immune to the pain and sadness of unfulfilled desires and dreams. Nefertiti, was the Royal Queen to Akhenaten, Pharaoh of Egypt. After 10 years and having given birth to a sixth daughter (failing to produce a male heir), Nefertiti fell out of favor with Akhenaten who turned to one of his lesser consorts in hopes of her giving him a son. Nefertiti was banished by the Pharaoh, experienced the death of one of her daughters, and finally, after surely crying rivers of tears, the emotional pain was overwhelming and she committed suicide. The colors were chosen to be consistent with sand dunes of northern Africa. Even the rise in elevation of the eye shape could be be symbolic of a sand dune. The undulation of color shifts in the resin remind me of the shifting dunes while the high gloss of the resin resembles the visual distortion caused by heat waves rising from the burning sands. The frame has a built-in French cleat hanger and ships with the wall portion of the cleat for ease of hanging.
