ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Terrestrial Consumption depicts humanity's destruction of Earth, the planet's cyclical consumption of itself, and ultimately the universe's consumption of Earth. Heulandite crystal is used to communicate how beauty often emerges from destructive processes. While the world will eventually come to an end, something better may emerge as a result. This piece is from Tyra's Sustained Decay Series. Inspired by the finality of humanity, society, and Earth. This collection of 13 depicts familiar symbols of livelihood, civilization, and nature in various states of decay. The intention is to look at our current world through the lens of discovering it's remnants at some point in the future. Ultimately, encouraging viewers to reconcile their lives in contrast to the sustained deterioration that surrounds us.

In 2019, she chose to focus her efforts on sculpture and architecture. Tyra minimizes color and overall materials to lessen the environmental impact of her work. She is most fulfilled and inspired when spending time in nature. The geography and topography of her travels as a military child and later into adulthood heavily influence her work. She explores fixed ideals of human existence expressed through natural forms to challenge ingrained perspectives.
