The CUBE Series: The CUBE It had always been assumed that a Sphere is a perfect geometric object - it is perfectly symmetrical, all points of its surface are equally distant from the center, there are no edges or vertices … and then, if you wanted to decompose the Sphere from all its perfection, you...

Mosaicist, Painter & Sculptor Born July 2, 1970 – Pula, Istria, Croatia Lives and works in Poreč, Istria THE ARTIST Alex Knapić is a contemporary artist whose work spans painting, mosaic, and sculpture — a visual dialogue between structure and emotion, material and memory. His creative language flows freely between oil and acrylic on canvas, intricate mosaics combining marble, Venetian glass, and metal, and sculptural forms cast in bronze, steel, aluminum, and wood. Guided by an abstract interpretation of reality, Knapić explores emotion as the primary medium of artistic transformation. His works are born from the tension between order and chaos — a fluid idea contained within a solid artistic expression. Each mosaic or sculpture reveals the artist’s pursuit of form as a living entity, where even stone and metal seem to breathe. His mosaics, often composed of marble, Venetian enamel glass (smalti veneziani), aluminum, and corten steel, capture the tactile essence of Istria — its rugged soil, radiant light, and salt-scented air. Through precision and masterful craftsmanship, Knapić transforms the coldness of material into organic movement, where fragments become moments, and moments merge into infinity. Evolving from architecture-inspired perfectionism toward emotional abstraction, Knapić’s artistic journey leads him to sculptures that transcend physical dimensions. His bronze and metal installations embody the concept of deconstructed reality — an attempt to translate the complexity of human emotion into a timeless visual rhythm. His paintings are sketches of emotion, his mosaics captured moments, and his sculptures — pure infinity. BIOGRAPHY Born in Pula in 1970, Alex Knapić lives and works in Poreč, Croatia. He is married to Koraljka and is the father of two children, Rea and Roman. His artistic path began with mosaics — a medium that reflects the unity of the world through its fragments. Over time, his creative expression expanded to painting and sculpture, in a continuous exploration of the relationship between material, form, and emotional resonance. Knapić’s distinctive fusion of traditional craftsmanship and contemporary abstraction has earned him recognition on the international art scene. His works have been exhibited in Monaco, London, New York, and Florence, alongside contemporary artists such as Gary James McQueen, Lars Beusker, and Lorenzo Quinn.
