ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Acrylic and oils on Aluminium Can, comes with glass display domes. Can measures 11x7.5cm and glass display dome with wooden base measures 21x14.5cm. Comes with a free gift of a drawing of the animal featured! The Canned Collection is a series based around the awful practice of ‘Canned Hunting’, which is why I painted the animals involved on food cans. The fox is not an animal typically thought of when ‘canned hunting’ is mentioned - but personally I see fox hunting that way. The fox is grossly outnumbered by humans on horseback and a large pack of foxhounds, hunted within a specific area. It doesn’t stand a chance, pretty much like most animals that are can-hunted. Canned hunting is basically when animals are either bred to be hunted, or kept within a confined area for the purpose of being hunted, often for tens or even hundreds of thousands of pounds - depending on the species. The animal is often then made into a taxidermist trophy. This practice happens in places like Africa with endangered species such as Lions, Leopards, other big cats, Elephants and even Rhinos! To a lesser extent it also happens in places like the USA where animals such as White Tailed Deer are bred to have as mainly points on their antlers as possible to then be hunted as a much sought-after ‘prize’

Contemporary Artist deeply inspired by nature with representation in the UK, Europe and the US. Author of the Book 'Survival' released in 2018 by Big Picture Press Publishing. Born in Scotland, and now residing near London - Louise McNaught completed her Fine Art Degree BSc (Hons) in 2012 at the University of Greenwich, and she has continued to work as a professional artist ever since, with international representation. Her artwork has also been featured in art fairs in Milan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Stockholm, Brussels and all over the UK. depicts animals as God-like, supreme beings that deserve our respect and protection, her work does this by reflecting upon the delicate relationship between humans and nature. She highlights man's destructive tendencies when it comes to nature in her art, sometimes in controversial ways and mostly her work features endangered species. Her focus on endangered species has manifested in a book called 'Survival', which Louise created with worldwide publishers Big Picture Press in September 2018. The idea came from the Solo Show Louise was doing with George Thornton Gallery in 2016, also called 'Survival'. The book shows 20 endangered animals painted by McNaught, with facts about the animals plight and conservation efforts. 'Survival' is sponsored by the well-known charity with proceeds of the book going toward helping their cause. By subverting traditional representation she hints at darker consequences, yet paradoxically giving animals an elevated status. Her animals are a medium for self-expression, as lack of context and background suspends the creatures in an internal or even numinous space, where they become a metaphor for the human condition and psyche. By drawing the viewers attention to the animals presence and energy, McNaught is hoping to share with the viewer the awe that the natural world inspires within her. "Her work presents a pleasant balance between traditional technique and new age spunk" The Quiet Lunch Magazine
