The Waterman could not answer, however, nothing came out of his mouth except a rustling and rippling. Then the Naiad saw a deep crack running through his heart, almost like an entrance to a cave. She should search there, she knew, and slipped into the dark. It was dark in the Waterman's heart cavity. The little nymph Najade couldn't see anything, so she called for her water lily sisters. But it seemed as if every sound was drowned out by the sound of the water. The nymph remained silent and did not move, the waves in the cave calmed down. Through the crack through which she came, some light came into the cave. Far below, in the depths, she saw pale pink water lily blossoms through the surface of the water. The water lilies adorned a head that lay petrified on the bottom of the cave. She recognized the petrified face of a sister. Neither alive nor dead. Najade knew she had to go looking for the body to breathe life into it.
