ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This sculpture represents the free woman, free from all attachment to material things that pulls her down from dignity, free from the influence that makes her a consumer, victim of an imposed fashion, free to take her destiny in hand. The work as a whole reminds me of the flying serf which can sometimes be the symbol of freedom, we observe the features of a woman with wavy hair in the air ready to take off towards a better world, where the common currency is the respect.

Abdelhaq El Youssi spent his childhood in the popular neighborhoods of Salé. In the workshops and factories, he discovers the raw materials that he will later use in his creations: scrap metal, wood, glues, etc. What does he see in a twisted piece of iron? an futuristic face!!?? Passionate about art creation, he has a thirst for learning. In year 2000 he decides to go to black Africa. There he meets masters who will train him. From the encounters he made during this six-year journey will be born his inspiration. After six years of absence, he returns to Morocco and works in the streets, his favorite territory. It is in this living and animated environment that he likes to create rather than in a closed space! An opportunity for him to share with passers-by, to present his work and express his opinions. Projects and exhibitions follow one another. In 2006 he put his suitcases in the Ourika valley where he set up his workshop "Le Savo'Art Fer" . A workshop and a gallery open to the public in order to be closer to the local population and the street world, to make art accessible to everyone. Nature lover, ecologist at heart, he uses recycled materials and offers original creations inspired by the world of childhood, African craftsmanship and above all what he very poetically calls "his personal legend". In the year 2000, His meeting with a young German painter, invites him to travel through Africa. Fate makes him discover the talent of a Malian artists from whom he will learn a lot. His travels and adventures inspire him, everything inspires him: music, cultures.... Abdelhaq El Youssi finds inspiration anywhere, anytime. The creation process is random because the iron is hard; it must be made to “obey gently”. Sometimes, the initial idea does not always succeed and gives way to another. The act of creating always involves a surprise. He seduces from West Africa to the United States via Europe, the arts works are exported. Divine, popular and accessible. “Art is related to the heart: the more you give, the more you receive. » Sculptor and painter, he works on universal themes, masks, iron men, the magic of gesture, emotions and everything that inspires him in our world.
