The mountains are calling Sculpture

This sparkling diorama is part of Lisa Swerling's series of miniature worlds in boxes, "Glass Cathedrals.” This portrait of John Muir has him hiking through his beloved Yosemite, part of a new collection dedicated to the wild places of California. The figure is hand-customised and painted, and not much bigger than pea-height. :) John Muir, the famous American conservationist and explorer born in 1838, once described himself as, a “poetico-trampo-geologist-botanist and ornithologist-naturalist". I love this unrestrained understanding of himself. Oh, the wisdom and beauty to be found in interconnectedness in oneself and nature. I love to create magical moments in sparkling boxes. Often the most meaningful times are also the simplest - being a kid, hiking, being in nature. This diorama may evoke your own memories, or perhaps serve as a magical reminder to get out in nature and treasure the wilderness. This Glass Cathedral is an open edition, made to commission.
