"Totem I" Outdoor Sculpture

Daniel Alvarado León is a Colombian sculptor focused on the dialogue between weight and tension. His work exhibited in Italy, Denmark, Germany, Egypt, Russia, Mexico, Chile and Colombia, primarily carved on stone, wood and iron assemblages, explores how rigid materials can express fluidity and organic movement. My artistic practice is evident the constant formal experimentation in dimensions and use of different materials, mainly of natural origin, attributing them abstract forms, which highlights the characteristics of the material. Inspired by the physical relationships that human beings establish with natural elements, the appropriation of spaces, the elaboration of objects as tools for symbolic interaction with the context. I seek to propose a sensory experience that moves the thought to questions about space, elements of nature and the participation of these in the context, inquiring into the cultural balance and ecological harmony. En mi práctica artística es evidente la constante experimentación formal en las dimensiones y el uso de diferentes materiales, principalmente de origen natural, a los cuales les atribuyo formas abstractas que destacan las características del material. Inspirada en las relaciones físicas que los seres humanos establecen con los elementos naturales, la apropiación de los espacios y la elaboración de objetos como herramientas para la interacción simbólica con el contexto, busco proponer una experiencia sensorial que conduzca el pensamiento hacia interrogantes sobre el espacio, los elementos de la naturaleza y la participación de estos en el contexto, indagando sobre el equilibrio cultural y la armonía ecológica.
