Unjust Sacrifice (Tulsa) Sculpture

Past history marking the Tulsa riots stirred me so deep, I had to create something. I finished this about two weeks ago and wasn't sure if it was strong enough to present. Unfortunately this was not the only place and time that whites destroyed black lives and burned down everything they owned, stealing from them, killing their family members and burying their bodies in unmarked graves. There were also places in Florida called Rosewood and Ocoee. I don't know the names of other places in America, but I'm sure there were many across this nation. It's a horrific crime and an American shame. But everyone needs to know about it, learn from it, not forget it, so it never ever happens again. I designed the houses, painted some and burnt edges on the others using my laser cutter. The board is varnished to give it a more antique look. The back board it is mounted on has a detail image of red engraved in the black paint. Burnt houses at top illustrates most of the African American communities were North of town. The unevenness of the rows of houses is intentional to illustrate the unevenness of our American society. All print proceeds will benefit the NAACP.
