Sculpture: Wood on Other.
The Inspiration for this series of solid wood wall sculptures came from a trip I took to the South Putuo Buddhist Temple on the island of Xiamen off the coast of China. The temple was built in 618 AD and has a storied history of both peace and violence. Each of these pieces feel very Asian inspired, while the rich mahogany, cherry and walnut woods speak to the sites ancient heritage. This piece is finished with varnish then polished back to reduce the gloss and give a warm, rich, almost aged feel. Some of the accent pieces are left raw without finishing for texture. Wired to hang.
