Wave Sculpture

Born in 1971. Tiel, The Netherlands. Ronald A. Westerhuis has a steel fascination. The indestructibility, dense structure and cold character of this metal make it the perfect medium for his large sculptures. After a search through the world during seven years of travel, he started a career in the offshore world. Daily surrounded by oil rigs, heavy structures and massive pieces of stainless steel. Once going through the first experimental shapes and material, Westerhuis found his way, he started building sculptures. After continued success in the art world, he decided to take an early retirement from the offshore world and pursue his art career full time. Working with stainless steel changed his life, a metal as hard, indestructible as vulnerable and sensitive, and a medium full of character inviting to touch. Westerhuis creates sculptures as elements of positive energy on its surrounding. Lines, balance, gravity, gravity, finishing and new techniques are explored in his works.
